Reid Surface Grinding

Reid Brothers Co. Inc. made surface grinders and grinding fixtures. They were in Beverly, MA at 59 Park St. from 1900 until 1930, moving into a new plant in 1930 at 138-140 Elliott St. started by Andrew S. (1877-1957) and Robert Reid (1885-1943).They were last here about 1978 and were moved to New Hampshire and eventually absorbed by larger companies.

Grinder has a 6" x 18" workable table surface. "The REID 'Rollerway" features a table which literally glides on 76 precision matched rollers for effortless, tension-free hand grinding. Adjustable wheel brake permits slight hand wheel tension when desired.

The manual 6" x18" Reids built in the 70's and 80's are very good surface grinders. They use a cog belt to pull the table rather than a rack and pinion making table travel very smooth. The Reid 618H is a totally different machine than the older Reid 2A and 2B machines.
